Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate (long chained carbohydrate), it rate’s high on the glycemic index (GI) and is absorbed rapidly.  It is also very caloric dense.

It has a higher osmotic value than dextrose, which can be beneficial for optimum gastric emptying as well as being gentler on the stomach.

What is it?

Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate (polysaccharine) that is used as a food additive, which is produced from vegetable starch by partial hydrolysis and usually found as a white spray dried powder.

Non-GMO Maltodextriin is a complex carbohydrate (polysaccharine) that is used as a food additive which is produced from a vegetable starch(which was not obtained from a crop that was GO(genetically modified) by partial hydrolysis and usually found as a white spray dried powder.

What does it do?

When consumed it is easily digestible, it is rapidly absorbed as quick as glucose and increase’s blood glucose levels which trigger’s and insulin spike.

Why should you I use it?

The universal benefits of using maltodextrin as a pre, intra and post workout supplement is because it very easily absorbed and increases IGF-1 and glucose stores at a very rapid rate and is a quick supply of energy.

The benefits of combining it with a pre-workout protein shake is it increase is the efficacy of the protein and carb backload prior your workout to maximize energy levels and reduce catabolism.

The benefits of combining it with a post-workout protein shake is it increase is the efficacy of the protein and also increase’s IGF-1 which ultimately assist’s in the absorption of the protein/amino acids and aids in the absorption of the protein/amino acids. It also reduces the glycogenic amino acid effect on amino acids as the glucose molecules within the maltodextrin is utilized to replenish glucose stores within the fatigued muscle, as opposed to utilizing the glycogenic amino acids within the protein to be utilized in gluconeogenesis, thesrefor the glycogenic amino acids that are sparred can be utilized for other beneficial functions within the body as opposed to be used as pre-cursors for glucose synthesis.

How should I use it?

When adding to a pre or post workout protein shake, the suggested dose would be to add 1 teaspoon to the chosen liquid to make the protein shake(AKA, water or milk) and stir/shake vigorously till completely dissolved. Then add desired amount of protein to the liquid/beverage and stir/shake until the protein powder is completely dissolved. For best results, allow beverage to sit for 5 minutes before consumption.

As an intra-workout, it can be also used by adding the desired amount to the beverage. It is suggested to add between 10-50gram’s in a given beverage to be used in an intra-workout beverage.

How does it improve my performance?

Due to Maltodextrin been a high GI carbohydrate, it is digested at a very rapid rate and hydrolysed down to glucose which is then absorbed at a very rapid rate. Effectivly, this has a two fold effect, 1: It increase’s insulin at a very rapid rate, which is commonly knows as an insulin spike, 2: The dextrose molecules get utilized to replenish glucose which is commonly known as “back loading” carbs, 3: reduces the glucogenic amino acids effect and 4: Improves the absorption of the post workout protein consumed.

What is the difference between Maltodextrin and Dextrose Anhydrous?

Non-GMO Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide that consists of D-glucose units connected in chains of variable length and improves the mouthfeel of food and beverage products it is added to as opposed to Pharmaceutical Grade Dextrose Anhydrous which is a monosaccharide and consists of D-Glucose unit’s in their single form and increase’s the sweetness of the food or beverage products it is added to.
